Why do people challenge me? Understanding the Honest Skeptic versus The Territorial Challenger

I get challenged to spar fairly regularly. Sometimes it comes from a place of genuine curiosity — someone who has heard claims about Wing Chun, or martial arts in general, and wants to know if any of it holds up. That's a legitimate question, and it deserves a serious answer. But the way the challenge gets framed is almost always wrong — and that's worth unpacking.

Stop thinking too much! 
How to improve and how to teach wing chun 
 
Beginners often want to stop and think the techniques through. 
This is wrong and a terribly slow way of learning because it will reduce the number of repetitions you can do during the class and with less data (experience) you cannot understand the techniques fully. 
 
What to do instead of thinking too much about it 
 
During class: 
Remember how kids learn. You were a kid once. Do not overthink. Do not worry about making mistakes. 
Just COPY and REPEAT like a kid would 
 
At home or before/after class: 
Try to recall the last session and repeat the technique by yourself. 
Work on footwork, work using both arms at the same time. 
 
You learn to understand movements by doing them. 
After 2-3 months of training, you will have gathered enough experience to start thinking about how to execute and improve your technique. 
But in the beginning, try to turn your brain off and just enjoy moving.

技を使うために、反応時間が必要です。 突然の攻撃に反応するのは非常に難しいことです。決まったドリルをやる時、そう感じていないかもしれませんが多くの人は攻撃されたときに、反応するのが間に合わないです。 そのため、ファンクショナル詠春拳では突然危険を感じる時、身を守るための最初のステップとして、正しい間合いを教えます。 攻撃されるかどうかわからない時、まずは距離を取ろう！ 距離を取るだけで、反応時間が増える、できる反応も増えるし、状況のコントロールを取り戻せるので、固まる可能性が下がる。 これは非常に大事なファーストステップ！ 正しい距離は相手の蹴りがギリギリ当たらないように。 注意 距離を取って、FWCのフットワークと構えを使わないといけません。半身のような構え、片足を前に出すのは危険!

I was asked if it was OK to sidekick when fighting multiple opponents. I always reply "you shouldn't kick" when asked about kicks. Here are a couple of reasons:
1) Feet are for moving and kicking makes it difficult to move.
2) Both legs are needed for punching power. Try punching on one leg...Punches are the superior weapon, keep them ready at all times.
3) Kicking commits the user, and might not do much damage against a heavier opponent, (think 65kg kicking an 85kg opponent), unless you hit where it really hurts. That's why we in FWC aim all kicks against the knee joints or the groin.
4)The right kicking distance is difficult to achieve when the opponent is moving straight vs round in a circle (real life vs competition)
That said, we do have and apply kicks in functional wing chun but in a different way that most kicking arts do.
