What is Wing Chun Kung Fu?

  • Invented by a woman, it's a system that stands out among the many different martial arts.
The invention of the system is accredited to a woman. Since women are often smaller than their adversaries (men), the wing chun system specializes in ways of overcoming a stronger and bigger opponent. Some of the ways to achieve that are by focusing more on speed, not just power, using both hands simultaneously, deflecting rather than blocking, attacking the weaker points of the opponent's body.

Wing chun uses "chained" hands and leg techniques, fast footwork and strategic thinking to enable us to defeat any enemy, big or small. Even if you're an experienced martial artist you'll be surprised and gain new insights about fighting.

If you are living in Japan you might not have heard about Wing Chun, but it is the most popular form of Chinese Kung Fu (from South China).

  • About the spelling of Wing Chun:
There are many English spellings of Wing Chun, 詠春拳 in Chinese.
We use the same Chinese characters/Japanese kanji (詠春拳) here in Japan but the reading is different. It's pronounced "ei-shun-ken" in Japanese.
We use the most common spelling Wing Chun on this website, but other examples are Wing Tsun, Wing Tzun, Ving tsun, Weng Chun and many more.
